Crambus sp?
I'd love to know how this was determined as ainsliellus. To me, the moth looks too worn to determine and the photo is taken at such a disadvantageous angle that the key marks cannot be accurately discerned. Since this is the only living image of ainsliellus on the web, I think a conservative approach should be taken.

Thanks for the comment Hugh, and I agree. I took the photo 7 years ago, and do not recall what resources I used to ID it. The photo has been submitted to the Lep. Soc. and the ID was confirmed.

These days I take much better moth species photos in general, and each season I also collect a few specimens of rare species when I find them for experts to examine. Last fall I sent specimens of Lithophane itata 9920, Lithophane tarda 9918, and Sympistis seth 10093.3 to Chuck Harp at CSU. My three S. seth specimens are having DNA analysis conducted.
