the tarsal claws sinced it.

why not Orthostethus infuscatus?

Gestalt doesn't grab me for O
Gestalt doesn't grab me for Orthostethus (elyral striae look too deep, among other things). Besides, at 15 mm it would be a 'tiny' Orthostethus (published size range starts at 28 mm). If a member of Elaterini, it's more likely Mulsanteus than Orthostethus. But I am still leaning towards a Melantous until I can see the tarsal claws.

I'd feel more comfortable wit
I'd feel more comfortable with Mulsanteus with a straight-on dorsal shot...

Mulsanteus makes sense
the rear pronotal angles are more divaricate than in other pix on that page, though -- but you're the indisputable boss, man ))

Mulsanteus
Now that I finally have Roache's revision of the Elaterini, there are no Mulsanteus recorded from OK, but there are three in close areas in neighboring states: M. arizonensis, M. variatus, and M. carolinensis. With these images, it'd be nearly impossible to ID further. I have seen specimens from OK, just dont have any published records indicating which species is/are more likely.

Elaterid
Can you show an image (or check) the tarsal claws. If the claws are serrate it is a Melanotus sp. I am favoring Melanotus, but would like to see the claws (or have you verfy) to be sure.

Blaine
Claws can't be shown clearly enough if serrations are small.

Thanks Blaine and Vassili,
Thanks for the ID.
I like Dipropus better for this.
