I think this is a Haploa, but I'm not sure which one. Maybe H. lecontei?

Leconte's Haploa Moth
I'm no expert, but yours looks exactly like the Haploa lecontei in Covell's "Field Guide to Moths of Eastern North America". I think you made the right call, and that your photo will be a valuable addition to the guide.
