Olla v-nigrum

Olla v-nigrum
Robbers Cave State Park, Latimer County, Oklahoma, USA
May 18, 2010
Size: 4.7mm
Came to lighted sheet set up near the lodge. Several pages of guide photo's and it
seems like much variation in color, but I did not see any with the light brown macula
on the elytra. If this is a correct ID, a data point for OK in May.

yes, O. v-nigrum
The only other sizeable gray lady beetle is Anatis labiculata, but that species has a very distinctive pronotum nothing like yours, and is typically several millimeters larger. Irregular blotchy spots like the light brown maculae on this individual may be caused by damage to the developing elytra in the pupal stage, perhaps that's what happened here.

Olla
Thank you Ms Abigail. It is a great looking beetle.
