ID
Listronotus humilis Gyllenhal In removing the sand that may be on the specimen you have removed the scales and partial waterproof coating secreted by the weevil. The result is the shining cuticle and loss of the color pattern of normal specimens. There are species without scales and some with various maculae with and without the scales. Excellent photos however.

Thank you.
I have a lot to learn.
I tried to remove the sand from only 1/2 of the weevil.
In the future is there a preferred method for removing the sand but not the scales?

nice -- thanks much

As you know
always ask if you need another photo. If I knew which might be the important external large-enough-to-see characters, I would take photos of them. But I don't usually know.
