Tiny, dirty white, worm

Tiny, dirty white, worm
Yamhill, Yamhill County, Oregon, USA
February 6, 2011
Size: 1 inch
This little, 1/2-1 inch bug, easily found in the surface soil around my strawberries and carrots, but more often in the strawberry fruits and in holes in the carrots. Usually several of them in the center of the fruits. They seem to have a hard shell, small antennae, some short legs in the front can be seen under a magnifying glass. I have seen them all months of the year. The strawberry plants are not doing well, so I think they may be feeding on the roots when berries are not available.

Moved from ID Request.

It's a Millipede of some kind. The experts may be able to tell you more. I took the liberty of cropping your image to give folks a better chance of identifying it.
