funky bug! - Acanthocephala
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
June 25, 2004
funky-looking bug on my herbs - I have no clue what kind it might be! In the sunlight it was bright blue!

Moved

Acantho*cephala sp. early stage, probably.

Looks like Hannah's

Coreid nymph
It is notoriously difficult to identify nymphs, so family is about as far as we can go here without expert help:-) This is indeed a leaf-footed bug in the family Coreidae. They feed on seeds, often seed pods of legumes, and at least one species on pine cones.

Looks like my mystery bug
- I haven't got a full ID yet but Bug Eric narrowed it down to a leaf-footed bug nymph
