ground beetle - Asaphidion curtum

ground beetle - Asaphidion curtum
Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
April 21, 2006
Size: 5mm

Asaphidion cinctum
As so noted for Tom's other photos of this uncommon critter.

Elaphrus
is my guess. Compare.

not so sure with the added dorsal shot
The beetle seems more elongated, not so round as the Elaphrus, it doesn't have all those circles on the elytra, and the pronotum has a crease in it.

Beetle
The body shape is right for Elaphrus, but as you said, it does not have visible puntures. I am fairly sure that some species of Elaphrus have a a crease in the pronotum. Do you still have the specimen? Neat find! Oh, and what kind of habitat did you find it?

Elaphrus sp.
This beetle wouldn't stop running and stopping, just like a small tiger beetle. I still have the beetle, in case it can't be identified from the picture. Elaphrus it must be, with 2 of Bugguide's best beetle guys saying so. Thanks for the help.

Just goes to show,
It ain't so till Don says it's so :-)

Beetle
Tom,
I would be interested in this specimen for my collection if you are willing to part with it. I could probably get you a species ID with the specimen in hand, too. If you are interested, just send me an e-mail.
