Xylosandrus germanus
Despite the name, this species is originally from temperate Asia. It has been in eastern North America since the 1920's and has recently turned up in the Pacific Northwest.

 
'germanus' does not refer to geography, it means 'sibling'
(compare 'germane')
germanicus, on the other hand, does mean 'German'
