This looks like Dicerca obscura to me however I am finding these under bark
in of what I think is a black tupelo tree,I always recognize the D. obscura
and always find them under/on pine bark and usually larger than this.
Id appreciated.12/7/2011 tree id correction added is Cyrilla racemiflora.

looks like D. obscura to me.
looks like D. obscura to me. The black tupelo or black gum is the host for D. spreta. You have some confused beetles lol

 
Or maybe I have removed the loose bark on every dead
pine in a 5 mile radius and they have no where else to go lol!
