This individual was spotted by sharp-eyed user Will Cook and flew over close enough for me to get a photo. This is close to an early date (April 20) for North Carolina, according to the lepidoptera experts (including Will) who accompanied us. I believe this is the first wild specimen for BugGuide. This area is especially notable for its abundance of carnivorous plants. See, for instance, this Nature Conservancy page. There are also a number of uncommon lepidoptera, especially skippers.
