Your encouraging feedback enticed me to dissect Collins' 460 page dissertation, plus associated more recent literature.
We have twelve Blapstinus spp. in California, of which ten occur in Los Angeles County.
The closest match is B. histricus, which is one of the few species that doesn't have a reddish hue.
Although color is somewhat variable in many Blapstinus spp., the absence of reddish seems unique.
