Hippodamia apicalis (or H. apicalis/expurgata complex)
The black markings connect at the rear of the body in your beetle, which they never do in
H. parenthesis
. From the markings alone, it is either
H. apicalis
or
H. expurgata
, which are externally inseparable. They are separable by range, however, and
H. apicalis
is the only one in northern California. I think we're safe calling this
H. apicalis
based on the range.

love your beetles!
I always enjoy seeing your lady beetle submissions, and I am especially happy to have another confirmed
H. apicalis
on BG. The only one we had before yours was a melanic form, this is much more typical of the species. You have such a wonderful geographic niche to explore and record!
