In-oak-bark pupa/beetle - Synchita fuliginosa

In-oak-bark pupa/beetle - Synchita fuliginosa
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 17, 2006
Size: about 3 mm
This tiny pupa popped out of a piece of oak bark I broke in-two, so I placed it in a labled container and waited to see what it might become. It has "become," but I don't even know what family it's in. It was in the outer "cork" (from the Latin Quercus, the genric name of oaks) layer rather than the inner fibrous cambium layer inhabited by various other species.

Following is its development series.
