Liposcelis sp. - Liposcelis bostrychophila - female

Liposcelis sp. - Liposcelis bostrychophila - Female
San Marcos, Hays County, Texas, USA
February 26, 2011
Size: 1.0 mm
Found these booklice in a starling nest from last year. I am preparing a slide so I can have a chance at keying them out. I'll have to settle for booklice until the barklice think spring has arrived.

ID confirmation
I sent a permanent slide with several cleared specimens from this group and Mockford confirmed L. bostrichophila!

Moved
Moved from Liposcelis.

My guess: Liposcelis bostrychophila Badonnel
I prepared a permenent slide with three specimens and keyed this one out using N. A. Psocoptera and "Insect and Mite Pests in Food" Vol. 2 (Mockford). I was not able to count the ommatidia or determine if the prosternum had all setae before the middle or not but the sculpturing on the vertex and abdominal tergites is right and the humeral seta on the lateral lobe of the pronotum is no more than twice as long as the other setae. As soon as the slide hardenes enough I'll send it to Mockford. Onward and upward.. Live and learn.
