It was found in a stream puddle in the midst of a small meadow in the woods.

I suspect this is Rhantus gutticollis (Say). Do you have a photo of the head showing the dark coloration in relation to the eyes? In this photo, it's difficult to see the character because of the curvature of the head. Also, if this is a male, a photo of the foreleg, particularly the tarsal claws, would be helpful.
