Xylomyidae: Xylomya sp.
It is a Xylomya sp. Save it for me please, alcohol will be fine. Members of this genus are very uncommon up our way.

Yes!
Very cool! Look for more on low vegetation along forest edges. They look and behave remarkably like sawflies or ichneumons, so you might "shoot first and ask questions later.":-) Great images and a terrific addition to the guide.

A bit waspy looking
I wasn't certain it wouldn't sting me when I grabbed it from the opened rearing container. The antennae said fly, but still... :-)
