California red scale? -
Aonidiella

Size: 2mm diameter est
I think this might be the California red scale,
Aonidiella aurantii
, which would be new to BugGuide. Can anybody correct/confirm? Thanks in advance.

It does appear to be Californ
It does appear to be California Red Scale, but you would need to clear an adult female and review her under the microscope to separate it from the rarer Yellow Scale (
Aonidiella citrina
). Yellow Scale is difficult to locate in most areas and Red Scale is very common.
