Sphagnum Sprite - Nehalennia gracilis - Male
Tom Swamp, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
June 5, 2010
One of the things I missed most during my three and a half years of living in the LRGV was that, for all of its fantastic biodiversity, the area had no bogs, and so none of the species that live in bogs: Sphagnum moss, carnivorous plants, orchids, and this nice little critter. It has a small cluster of mites attached to its underside around where the abdomen meets the thorax.
