Tiny Aquatic Beetle - Hydraena

Tiny Aquatic Beetle - Hydraena
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
April 26, 2006
Size: 2.2mm
Found this beetle submerged on a dead blade of grass a couple inches below the surface of a pool in the woods.

Hydraenidae: Hydraena sp.
It looks like a Hydraena. However, the water tension has pulled all useful characters close to the body (antennae and maxillary palpi). I would go for another photo either fully in water, or after it has dried for awhile.

Hydraenidae - Minute Moss Beetles
I'll try to find another and get a good photo. I found this at the end of a long walk, and didn't pay enough attention to what I was doing.

Wish I could see more detail,
but my first thought was Hydro*cus.

Looks close
Next time I'll take it home and dry it off for the picture.
