Andropolia - theodori or epichysis? - Andropolia theodori

Andropolia - theodori or epichysis? - Andropolia theodori
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
August 15, 2010
AVBC 669-10 BOLD DNA - species match not made. BOLD results indicate:
- 100% match for the only two specimens of A. epichysis in the collection
- For A. theodori, the following matches: 1 specimen each at 100%, 98.85% and 98.54%; 3 specimens at 98.24

Present BC list includes A. epichysis but not A.theodori. Found references on the net to both species separately & also to what sounds like a subspecies - A. theodori epichysis. Not sure what gives!

Moved from Andropolia.

it
makes me wonder what mine were

Yeah
I know. Originally thought it was the same as yours - & it looks like it probably is. Still wading my way through all my BOLD results. Have been a few surprises so far - can't take anything for granted!

Andropolia theodori
is the only one of the two species listed in Lafontaine & Schmidt's 2010 Noctuoidea checklist. There is no mention of A. epichysis as either a species, synonym, or subspecies in that work; however, in Poole's 1989 Noctuidae revision he lists A. epichysis as a synonym of Andropolia theodori. As you mentioned, I have found several internet sources that list A. epichysis as a subspecies, but I havn't found a source to verify if that designation is correct.

Thanks, Chris
...that was a real help. Originally thought it might be a synonym but wasn't sure - looking increasingly like it. Think I'll move it to A. theodori.

Also wasn't aware of the 2010 update to the Noctuoidea list. Really appreciate finding out about that - have just downloaded it!
