Tiny Underbark Beetle - Litargus balteatus
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
April 25, 2006
Size: 2.1 mm
Looks like Jim's images of Litargus balteatus. Found under the bark of an upright dead Sycamore on a warm Spring day. ID comments appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Litargus.

Mycetophagidae: Litargus balteatus
Elytral patterns do vary a bit, more so than the other Litargus species, but this one fits well within our identified specimens.

Probably not bal*teatus.
The marking are a little different.

vote for balteatus
pattern in within variability range
