Eupithecia mutata or johnstoni - Eupithecia johnstoni

Eupithecia mutata or johnstoni - Eupithecia johnstoni
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
July 1, 2010
AVBC 212-10 BOLD DNA - species match not made. Same result for three other specimens.

All four have 100% matches for both E mutata & E johnstoni. Looks more like E. johnstoni. E. mutata on current BC list but not E. johnstoni. Published DB calls it a match for E. johnstoni but doesn't appear to include E mutata at all.

For time being have posted on both species pages - hope this is ok??

Note also similarity to E. spermaphraga, but latter is larger (body length 12mm as opposed to 8/9mm for E mutata/johnstoni specimens).

Where are the others?
You mention three others. If they have been posted at BugGuide, they should be moved to johnstoni provided they are in the same BOLD BIN.

Others
.... were not posted on BG as they all looked the same and were collected at the same time.

Follow Up
That's fine about not posting.

BOLD has an identification error for mutata but I'm still not sure if it's the ones that look like your image of johnstoni which are in error or the BIN with examples that look like rotundopuncta. I now think it's the latter which may imply that there is a second error in the identification of johnstoni examples. I left a comment for Jason D. Roberts here which explains. Hopefully he can supply the missing info. Or perhaps you have access to it.

Sorry for making this so complicated.

Duplicate Frassed
Along with this examples, BOLD shows several other specimens identified as mutata in BIN cluster, BOLD:AAA7997. That BIN is mostly composed of specimens identified as johnstoni. All examples in that BIN seem to match that johnstoni and that BIN is not narrowly separated from BINs which include or are close to mutata. Simply put, the examples of mutata in BIN cluster, BOLD:AAA7997, appear to be incorrectly identified. They should all be johnstoni.

I may be mistaken
In reading the descriptions, I see that I may be in error. I may have gotten the identity of mutata it reversed. Will try to get back to this later.
