Explanation of Names
Specific epithet from Latin amatus meaning "loved."
Size
Wingspan: ♂ 13 mm, ♀ 18-19 mm (Dyar, 1901).
Range
Heppner (2003) reported the range to include Florida.

Austin et al. (2019) reported the range to include all the major islands of the Bahamas.
Austin & Dombroskie (2020) reported additional records from Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Turks & Caicos, and the Cayman Islands.
Holotype female from Florida, Palm Beach Co., Palm Beach.
