Identification

Adult: wings blackish with inconspicuous orange spots. Note round translucent whitish spot in median area of forewing; 2 other spots close together on hindwing. (2)
Range
mostly: TX-FL-ME-WI, w/ scattered western records (MPG data)
Habitat
open areas with flowers
Season
mostly: Apr-Aug (MPG data)
Food
Larvae feed on Clematis and Houstonia species.
Adults take nectar from flowers of herbaceous plants.
Also may form puddle parties (O'Connor 2011)
