I found this bug under a rock in our backyard about 10:00 AM local time this morning. Can anyone ID it?

Carabus (Archicarabus) nemoralis
Thanks to both David and Stephen for the ID. After reading both your comments, I went to the Canadian government's "Ground Beetle" page (
http://www.cbif.gc.ca/spp_pages/carabids/phps/image1_e.php
) and verified that Carabus (Archicarabus) nemoralis is resident here in Newfoundland and matches my specimen.

A Beauty
A beauty! Okay, I'll get the ball rolling by identifying it as a member of the Carabidae. While the shape of the elytra may be a little atypical of Carabids, quite a few Carabids have the black coloration with purplish sheen, and this sort of regularly and widely spaced punctation on the elytra.
From there? Well how about tribe Carabini, perhaps genus Carabus. Here's a Carabus nemoralis photo by Tony:
