The dark end reminds me of the meconium in these Sceliphron cocoons:

I'm not aware of members of any other order producing cocoons with this feature. Maybe a hymenopterist will see this here and recognize it...

I suspect...
some kind of hymenopteran cocoon. Did you save it to see what comes out?
