Ectpsocus californicus (Banks) - Ectopsocus californicus - Male
Tyler, Smith County, Texas, USA
March 18, 2011
Size: 2.9 mm
Caught beating oak branch with persistent dead leaves. I did my homeowrk on this one since the species in the Ectoposcus Briggsi Complex can be difficult to separate. I cleared the abdomen on this specimen and made a temporary slide in glycerol. I was able to get a good look at the phallosome and it looks "exactly" like Fig 3 in "The Ectopsocus briggsi complex in the Americas", Ent. Soc. of Washington, Vol. 61(6): pp. 260 - 266, 1959 (Mockford). This makes it E. californicus.
