white insect in desert (Death Valley, Mesquite Dune) with black stripes, gray speckles - male and female? - Ophryastes
Death Valley, Mesquite Dune near Stovepipe Wells, California, USA
March 29, 2011
Size: 0.75 inches big one
saw these before sunset at Mesquite Dune near Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley, CA. They were leaving tracks in areas near vegetation. We saw two pairs like this, and also another lone big one by itself. The lone one was rotating inside a small depressed cone of sand (on top of sand, not in it) but then walked off.
