Dung Beetle - Phanaeus igneus - female

Dung Beetle - Phanaeus igneus - Female
Ross Prairie State Forest, Ocala, Marion County, Florida, USA
March 21, 2011
On our way to visit Jane's brother, we passed a sign for Ross Prairie State Forest. We came back the next day to explore. As we walked through an oak woodland and out into a piney grassland we saw a half dozen of these beauties on or near the sandy trail. We assume these are Phanaeus igneus and the ones without the horn are females. We don't know who is at the reins of this coach!
