One of the Tent Cats - Phyllodesma americana

One of the Tent Cats - Phyllodesma americana
Desoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
April 4, 2011
Size: 21-22mm
I almost didn't even bother with this one--I assumed it was a Forest Tent Cat which I find every April and a few of which I have already seen on my fence under the oak trees. But it is different and I haven't been able to find a match.

Perhaps early instar Lappet Moth (Phyllodesma americana)
Yours looks like this one to me:

I think you must be right--
While I was looking I saw those two red bars on the later instars and discounted the possibility. I've added a closer view of that area on mine--I think the two gold bars must turn red in later versions. (Why do these remind me of old men who need to trim their ear-hairs?)
