Caterpillars
Kennebunk Dump, York County, Maine, USA
April 3, 2011
Size: about 1 cm each
Could any of these caterpillars be identified further than order?

UPDATE, 18-June-2011
The Noctua pronuba has emerged as an adult! See .

Update, 19-May-11
The Noctua pronuba has pupated! See .

Update, 15-May-11
Two flies emerged from the reddish pupae! They are here: .
The Noctua pronuba is still eating lots of clover and dandelions.

Update, 4-May-11
One of the smaller caterpillars died, but two tiny reddish cocoons emerged from it. I am hoping to rear them to adulthood.
The other small caterpillar died as well, but no parasites emerged.
The Noctua pronuba is almost 3 cm long!

cocoons
If they're reddish, I'm guessing they're not cocoons but puparia of tachinid flies.

Update, 15-April-11
Two have died.
The other four are growing well on a diet of clover and dandelions.
The possible Noctua pronuba is growing much faster than the others.

Noctuids, I think
