Size: 4 mm or so
There were several of these in moldy, decaying litter under a small rock. Thought it resembled
Aphodius
(
Chilothorax
)

.

This is Pardalosus serval, a
This is Pardalosus serval, a winter-spring active eastern US species. Not often seen. It has a different maculation pattern than distinctus, but is easily confused. Good find.
