A number of these were found under bark; there were also many springtails, Synchroa punctata larvae, Bitoma sp., and Xylophagus sp. pupae underneath the bark.

The 8th abdominal segment is noticeably longer than wide--which distinguishes this as a Pyrochroid rather than a Cucujid like Cucujus clavipes.
