Interesting! Sorry to say I didn't collect it. I'll keep an eye out for others next time I visit that spot. These are the only photos I got of it, but if there is an area in any of these shots you'd like me to zoom in on I can add a closer crop.

This is an odd, and perhaps very rare, thing! I need to check it out with the collection and get back to you later.

 
Found it!
Adelesta nova (Norton, 1867). A rarely seen sawfly. Norton described it from a single specimen from "Maine". I have seen only several additional specimens from Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. No one knows is host plant or anything else about it. Nice find!

There are a great many host plants to choose from in this spot. I visit it often, and I will make a point of looking for larvae there.
