Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
According to Louis Nastasi, "Aulacidea annulata and tumida are 100% synonyms as confirmed by both DNA barcoding and morphological evidence, to be published in my upcoming revision."
Remarks
Galls of Aulacidea tumida Bassett are "fusiform pithy stem swellings high on the stem of Lactuca canadensis [wild lettuce], bearing many leaves or branches." A. annulata Kinsey, described from Sharon, MA, is "doubtfully distinct from the above." (1) Galls of A. tumida were recorded on sow-thistle (Sonchus) in Burks, 1979, but this record is almost certainly given in error. (2)
