Pine sawfly larvae - Neodiprion sp. - Neodiprion

Pine sawfly larvae - Neodiprion sp. - Neodiprion
Oak Ridge, Guilford County, North Carolina, USA
April 10, 2011
Size: ~1/2 in.
Feeding on Virginia pine about 5 pm.
Is it possible to ID species?

Diprionidae
OK for Neodiprion sp. It's just about impossible to id young larvae (and even many mature larvae) to species. Neodiprion sertifer can be ruled out; it's not known that far south.

Sertifer
It looks exactly like Neodiprion sertifer to me.
Why not at least move it to Neodiprion, instead of
"unidentified sawfly larvae?"

Because we have an expert
who gives IDs, might as well get his opinion.
