just a guess
Perhaps cranefly larvae (Tipulidae) - especially if the leaf was in a moist place. The end appears to be the waggin' end - as opposed to the bitin' end - with spiracles surrounded by fleshy lobes. It would be helpful to have a similar closeup of the other end.

Head
I don't know why I didn't take a photo of the head.
This is a prairie plant that self seeded near the blacktop road between two concrete driveways so it was not in a moist area. However, I assume it is moist betweent the layers of the leaf.
I kept thinking I would find another leaf with larvae in it to try and rear but I never did.
