termites - Reticulitermes flavipes

termites - Reticulitermes flavipes
Merrimack, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 12, 2011
Whoot! My first termites (besides that other one)!! I turned over a rotting log and there they were! This is unfortunately the best shot I could get because they scattered really quick and retreated to the dark recesses of the inner log.

R. flavipes is apparently the only subterranean species in your area. Otherwise they are really hard to tell apart from other species in this genus.

Moved from Isoptera (Termites).
