Unknown "flower" beetle - Lytta aenea
Shawnee State Forest, Scioto County, Ohio, USA
April 17, 2011
Size: approximately 1/2 inch
This small but incredibly showy beetle was nectaring on pussy-toes, Antennaria plantaginifolia, in a dry opening on a ridgetop in a chestnut oak-hickory dominated forest. I wouldn't have noticed how flashy it was had I not moved in close with my macro lens. Any identification would be greatly appreciated!
