Dusky Dancer, male - Argia translata - male

Dusky Dancer, male - Argia translata - Male
Williamson County, Texas, USA
This male regularly perched on the limestone coping around the lily pond end of our water garden, but occasionally perched on one of the low protruding reed stakes we put in...specifically, he harrassed a Great Spreadwing male that was perching (hanging vertically) under the stake. Like the female Argia translata photographed in the woods, this was a very skittish damselfly, alert and wary, and difficult to get "broadside" at any reasonable distance.

Elizabeth, can you look at Jason's
62894, 63307, and 64427 and comment some more on how we tell translata from moesta. There's been some debate on these and your Texas experience can help us all out. Thanks,

Sure, I'll take a look...
...but when I'm at all unsure, I send my image to Dr. Abbott for his opinion. I've gotten better, but he's still my backup.
