Barklouse - Valenzuela subflavus - female

Barklouse - Valenzuela subflavus - Female
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
April 2, 2011
Size: ~2.5 mm

I think it's a female
because the wings extend past the abdomen for less than the length of the abdomen and the abdomen seems too stout to be that of a male.

cool; thanks for the insight, Diane!

According to Mockford's N. A. Psocoptera:
V. subflavus "Forewing with distinct marking pattern; brown spot below hind margin of pterostigma (extending forward into pterostigma in male, not female), brown spot over distal half of cell R separated only by vein from brown spot in base of cell M3, brown border of vein M+Cu1 and Cu1 to areola postica". This female specimen shows all those traits so I think it is safe to call it subflavus.

Moved tentatively -- will seek expert review

ID confirmed by E.L. Mockford: V. subflavus male
his comment: "What a beautiful insect!"
