Spirobolida? - Tylobolus

Spirobolida? - Tylobolus
Soquel, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
April 16, 2011
I am surprised by how many good sized millipedes I am seeing near my new home in the Santa Cruz mountains. This is the most frequently seen, but there are a couple of others I see frequently, as well. Some individuals have very visible red stripes while others have them so narrow that the millipede at first seems all black. This is one of the well marked ones. Upon closer inspection (see plate 3) it appears that there is a thin gold stripe at the outer edge of the red stripe.
