Slim Jim on a grass stem - Spalacopsis texana

Slim Jim on a grass stem - Spalacopsis texana
Welder Wildlife Refuge, San Patricio County, Texas, USA
April 25, 2011
Size: 1 cm
I noticed this beetle clinging to a grass stem in my sweep net. When I tried to photograph it, the little fellow played dead and would not cooperate. He (she) was just to cute to collect. Anybody kow this one?

I need to take...
an "anti-pity pill" (a term used by Beverly Nichols in "Merry Hall"). I could not bring myself to dispatch this one. I let it go at Welder Wildlife Refuge.
