Bald Faced Hornets

has anyone in the north east seen any bald faced lately?

Yes
I just collected one on Friday in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I think it is a queen, although I haven't mounted it yet.

Try this:
Go to the Images page for Dolichovespula maculata and click on Recent Images. This will show you all the images of Bald-Faced Hornets in the guide, starting from the most recent and going all the way to the first ones posted. As it turns out, some are from the Northeast within the past couple months.
