Brood XIX Periodical Cicada 2011 - Magicicada tredecassini - male

Brood XIX Periodical Cicada 2011 - Magicicada tredecassini - Male
Penny's Bend Reserve, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
April 30, 2011
Size: 20 mm
Size (body length) measured on captive specimen. There were many shed skins and a few adults in an old field adjacent to woodlands. The adults present all seem to have deformed wings, which likely accounts for them hanging around in the afternoon. A few were singing from adjacent woodlands.
The couple of individuals I photographed sure look like Magicicada tredecassini Alexander and Moore 1962. I don't see any substantial orange behind the eye, and the abdomens are completely dark. They also seemed on the small side to me. Comments?
(Update: I also listened to the song on the magicicada.org web site, and that of M. tredecassini matches what I heard at the site. I'm being bold and moving to the species level. Also, the other linked image shows tymbal covers, so this must be a male.)
