Nocturnal Ant - Camponotus fragilis
Oak Creek, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA
April 21, 2011
Size: roughly 12mm
Found this ant dying, but have seen them very active during the middle of the night, often mining nectar from our hummingbird feeders.

It looks like it could be a minor worker of C. fragilis, but I must qualify this. Unfortunately, I can't see any of the diagnostic hair patterns. And, if indeeed 12mm from mandibular bases to acidopore, this minor worker is rather large for the festinatus group. Maybe in fact a bit smaller?

Could have been closer to 10 or 11mm
Didn't have a good measurement device with me. Thanks for the ID, though!

Camponotus
I agree. Possibly something in the C. festinatus group. Wait and see what James thinks. Moving to family.

camponotus?
Looks like it could be Camponotus to me, especially at that large size. I'm not an ant expert though so I'd wait for confirmation
