Brood XIX Periodical Cicada 2011 - Magicicada tredecim - male

Brood XIX Periodical Cicada 2011 - Magicicada tredecim - Male
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 2, 2011
Size: 28 mm
This periodical cicada was emergin on the side of my house about 10 p.m. I took photos of the process and captured it so I could look at the adult. Examination of the adult showed it to be a male Magicicada tredecim. Body length, head to tip of abdomen, was 28 mm in the adult. (Head to the base of the genital plate would be about 25 mm.)
