Longhorn cactus fly confrontation - Odontoloxozus longicornis

Longhorn cactus fly confrontation - Odontoloxozus longicornis
Peters Canyon, Orange County, California, USA
May 7, 2006
When I approached, both flies were dining and apparently getting along fine. There was a confrontation, and one was banished from the flower. A carpet beetle had a ringside seat for the fight.

Identifiers
The contents of the identifier field are only visible to the contributor. Editors can see them only if we open the page in Edit mode.

Fortunately, your identifiers are in the same numeric order as the images, and they're also linked in that order- so images 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 are in the right sequence.

What makes it confusing is that BugGuide is configured so we see them in backwards order (Most recent first).

I keep confounding myself
I didn't intentionally put anything in the Identifier field. Probably, I should have put 1 of 3, etc. on each appropriate page. Chuck, thanks again for your tutelage.

Understandable
The system software takes your filenames and puts them in the identifier field if you leave it blank. Since you're always logged in when you view the images, there's no way to see that they're only visible to you.

As for putting 1 of 3 in there, the system does that automatically for linked images, so it would look redundant.

And regarding tutelage: that's what I do (maybe it's something I had for lunch... ;-) )

...in the style of Homer Simpson
Ummm, tutelage!

LOL,
Ron
