beetle - Conoderus pictus

beetle - Conoderus pictus
Dunedin, Pinellas County, Florida, USA
April 15, 2011
Size: ~5mm est.
Very tiny beetle which looks like it might be a kind of click beetle. Beetles collected around lights in park at night.

Moved Tentatively
Moved from Conoderus bellus.

Will be examining material from FL this weekend, but feeling confident with ID.

Moved
Moved from Frass.

Let's keep this image for now. There is a noticeable difference in the pronotal patterns of some of the FL populations, with the macuale broken to look like smiley-faces. At some point I'd like to investigate to see if this is a regional difference or possibly a new species/subspecies.

C. bellus
I have two more of those for you when you get here next month. One
with the "U" shaped macula and one w/o. Also have 43 others for you
(so far).

Frassed
Moved from Beetles.

Conoderus bellus
common at my porch lights
